I am a registered midwife and have been practicing as a Lead Maternity Carer (LMC) since 2009. Over the short period I have practiced as an LMC, I have had a change of direction in my role as a midwife. I am now working shifts at Warkworth Birth Centre as well as providing locum cover and support to the other midwives of Rodney Coast. I also offer postnatal care to women and their babies seeking a midwife during the postpartum period from birth to six weeks old. This may be for women who have recently moved to the area or who have had LMC care from someone outside the Rodney Coast Area. I also hold a certificate in Midwifery Acupuncture, NZSATCM. Acupuncture can be used as a drug-free alternative in treating common discomforts related to pregnancy and childbirth. I provide woman-centred care and work in partnership with women and their families in order to empower them through their journey into parenthood. I believe women should be actively involved in their experience to enable informed decision making and self care. Motherhood is a significant life event that provides the opportunity ineach woman’s life to develop personal growth
